This card is only interesting for its signup bonus. While it offers "bonus rewards" on some very useful categories, they only amount to 2% back and you should be getting that much or more from other cards.

Collecting the Signup Bonus

It is worth signing up for this card just to collect the signup bonus. The typical signup bonus is $750. You may even be able to get multiple versions of the card.

Notable Benefits

None.

Bonus Categories

The Leverage card is built around a compelling idea. You get bonus points on whichever two categories you spend the most on each month. There are almost 50 different categories, include potentially valuable categories like wholesale goods providers, construction supplies, and schools.

The only problem is that the bonus rewards only amount to 2% cashback. You can do better with the "regular rewards" from other cards.

Getting Rid of the Card

  • Make sure to cash out your rewards balance before you cancel your card.
  • You can wait to cancel the card until after the annual fee shows up on your statement. As long as you cancel within 30 days of being charged the annual fee, U.S. Bank will refund it.
  • You might be able to receive a retention offer to keep your card. It could be enough to make it worthwhile to keep the card.
