Collecting the Signup Bonus
There is none. Rather than applying directly, you could wait until you need to cancel a different Citibank card, and downgrade it to the Costco card instead. This lets you avoid an additional credit card application, and you won't be missing out on the signup bonus from the Cost card, because there is none.
Other Notable Benefits
None.
Bonus Categories
- The Uber card is a better no-annual-fee option for travel and restaurant purchases. It earns 4% on dining, and 3% on hotel and airfare, rather than the Costco's card 3%; gives you a $50 credit (if you spend $5,000 per year), includes mobile phone protection, and doesn't have a foreign transaction fee. Other cards, such as the Sapphire Reserve earn even higher rewards, but have an annual fee. Best Credit Cards for Travel Spending. Best Credit Cards for Restaurant Spending.
- 4% back on gas is very good. However, you can earn even more with a handful of other cards. So, it doesn't make sense to get this card, just to optimize the rewards on your gas purchases. However, if you already have this card, it is likely your best existing option to use at gas stations. Best Credit Cards for Gas Spending.
- 2% back at Costco is not very interesting. You should be already be getting that, or more, from your general-purpose reward card. Get a Great General Purpose Reward Card and Use It for All of Your Spending.
- You don't want to use these cards for your everyday spending. You'll earn higher rewards from a good general-purpose reward card. Get a Great General Purpose Reward Card and Use It for All of Your Spending.
Getting Rid of the Card
You receive your Costco credit card rewards in February (along with any Costco Executive membership rewards). If you cancel at any other time, you'll lose any accumulated rewards. If you cancel your Costco membership, they will automatically cancel your associated credit card.
You can't convert the Costco card to any other card.
