Things to Do Now to Save Money on Hotels Later

Start applying for new credit cards
Work your way through this list as quickly as you can meet each card’s initial spending requirement.
- Chase “5/24” credit cards.
- (maybe) Citi Prestige card for its 4th night free benefit.
- (maybe) Hilton credit card for free breakfast.
- (maybe) One or more credit cards that give you a free night certificate every year.
Other easy things to do
- Start using AwardWallet to keep track of your loyalty program information.
- (maybe) Join AAA.
- Check to see if you have a corporate code that you can use.
- Register for a few websites, so that you are all set to use them when you need to book a hotel.
- Sign up for the major hotel loyalty programs (except Marriott).
- (maybe) Add the best hotel websites to your browser bookmarks.
Intermediate things to do
- Build up your point balances with a IHG and Choice so that you can take advantage of the “Cash & Points Trick”.
- Register at a couple of shopping portals (Top Cashback, Be Frugal)
- Consider joining AARP (anyone can join, regardless of age).
