Additional Discover Credit Cards
- Discover Chrome Card. Earns 2% back on gas and restaurants. Like other Discover cards, this is doubled the first year, raising the reward rate to 4%. That would be pretty good for the first year, except that it is also capped to $1,000 in bonus category spending per quarter. If you spent the whole $4,000 on groceries and gas, you'd earn $80 more than a regular 2% card and would need to cancel and re-apply every year. No annual fee. Official Webpage.
- Discover Business Credit Card. This is essentially a business version of the Discover Travel Card. You get 1.5 points on every purchase, doubled at the end end of the first year.
- NHL Discover Card. Except for the branding this is the same as the Discover Cash Back Card. You get 5% back on rotating set of categories (capped at $1,500 of bonus category spending each quarter), doubled at the end of the first year.
Discover Rules and Tips
- You can earn multiple signup offers for the same card. However, you can only have a maximum of two Discover cards and you can only get one new card per year.
- If you are initially declined, there is a good chance that you can still get the card if you call their reconsideration line. You just may need to make a few changes to your accounts.
- You can usually get a referral bonus. Typically, both you and your referral will get an extra $50. Check online.
- Advanced Details. Discover will match a better signup offer if it becomes available during the first few months you have your card. They will send your card via priority mail.
If you need to talk to a representative, you can take advantage of myFico.com's list of backdoor phone numbers. These, often unpublished, phone numbers will get you directly to more experienced credit card company employees that may be better able to provide assistance.
